The Inspiration for Akal Dayal
“The True Guru has planted the Holy Name of the Lord
within me; it is the eliminator of obstacles, the destroyer of all
pains.   All of my sins were erased, and I have been purified;
servant Nanak has returned to his home of peace.”
–Guru Arjun, Siri Guru Granth Sahib
This verse from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, the written Guru, is from
one of the many Hukams (passages selected randomly with prayerful
intention) printed in
Akal Dayal.   The collection of Hukams is from the
week before his passing, and the following forty days.  These Hukams
come from the Siri Singh Sahib’s two homes, the Harimandir Sahib (the
Golden Temple) in Amritsar, India and Hacienda de Guru Ram Das, in
Espanola, New Mexico.

The Hukams from the Golden Temple were first gathered by the
students of Miri Piri Academy in Amritsar, together with their
drawings. The Hukams from Hacienda de Guru Ram Das, with
artwork from loving students of Yogi Bhajan, are companions to
those from the Golden Temple.

During the time leading up to the Siri Singh Sahib’s passing and the
demanding days following, it was the sound current of the Siri Guru
Granth Sahib, no matter where we were across the globe, that was
a source of comfort, support, clarity, unity and a reminder of the
true relationship between the soul and the Infinite Divine. In its
English form, this sound current evoked deep in our hearts the
unspeakable beauty of this transition time in language at once
etheric, worldly, vast, and humble.
